Bootie Brown is a hip-hop artist and producer who helped craft the sound of non-gangster West Coast music. The world first heard his patented flow on The Pharcyde’s “Passin’ Me By”. The debut album Bizarre Ride II The Pharcyde and Labcabincalifornia rightly cemented his legacy in Hip-hop. Their patented blend of jazzy beats, fresh lyrics and original song ideas was unmatched. 

Nevertheless, his legacy cultivated his own creative lanes lyrically and in production within the world of rap. At times his contributions to Hip-hop can blur you from realizing the full scope of his cultural impact. While so many rappers from the 90’s are filming their retrospectives, while remaining in the past- he’s still breaking new ground. Not bad for a young kid from Pasadena, California who got his start dancing on stage with a House Music singer named Hiroko, then advancing to dance behind the likes of Mc’s Tone Loc and Candy Man!

Bootie Brown sunk deep into music production and got serious praise as he co-produced the iconic De La Soul remix of Ego Trippin’. He also put in work with the legendary J Dilla. Brown is a true creative and early adapter to the transitions of Hip-hop from day one. 

His creative skills and work ethic placed him in the right place at the right time to collaborate with Dangermouse who introduced Brown to the Gorillaz family. After a studio session and a few conversations the result was the song Dirty Harry which received a Grammy nomination for Best Urban Alterative Performance off of the Demon Days album. 

The Dirty Harry collaboration also led to a road in which Brown recorded on a remix of The Gorillaz super iconic “Clint Eastwood” with Dave of De La Soul. 

Bootie Brown is currently on a world tour with the Gorillaz as he prepares new music to be released later this year.
